We just got a new lot of Bronze Age awesomeness!

Hey, do you like classic four-color action? Of course you do!

Do you like legendary comic creators like Jack Kirby, Roy Thomas, Joe Kubert, and Len Wein? Who doesn't!?

Are you a fan of ads where superheroes stop criminals by feeding them Hostess snack cakes? Well then, I've got some good news!

Haven just got a lot of classic Bronze Age books, mostly from the 70s and early 80s. We've got the Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk, and Nazis. Like, a lot of Nazis. You seriously don't appreciate how many books had Nazi villains back in the 70s. Lady Nazis, monster Nazis, robot Nazis. Pretty much, if you could Nazi-fy a thing, there's probably a comic book where Captain America punches it in the face.

The books are mostly in fine or good condition. They're not top-notch collector quality, but we're not charging collector prices either. And despite some rips and creases, these books still have the old-school charm and bold action that have made comics the only original American art form.*

Here's all the books we just got in...

Amethyst: Princess of Gem World #1, 2, 4, 6, 7
Beetlejuice #1
Defenders #43
Fantastic Four #163, 175, 177
Ghosts #104, 107, 109
G. I. Combat #177, 225, 227, 229, 231, 233, 234, 237, 240
Hercules Unbound #2
House of Mystery #307
The Incredible Hulk #203, 209, 212, 237, 243
Jonah Hex #63
Kull #23
Marvel’s Greatest Comics #58
Marvel Super-Heroes (feat. The Incredible Hulk) #61, 62, 68, 69, 71, 75, 82, 84
Masters of the Universe #9
Nova #9
Our Army at War (feat. Sgt. Rock) #290, 291
Power Man #38
Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos #151
Sgt. Rock #322, 341, 343, 351
Shade the Changing Man #1
Speed Racer #5
Star Trek #4

Free RPG Day is nigh!

Haven will be celebrating Free RPG Day on June 15th with 20% off all RPGs and boardgames, tons of freebies, and an open Dungeons and Dragons game starting at 12:30.

Established in 2007, Free RPG Day works with participating hobby game retailers and RPG publishers to bring new and exclusive RPG quickstart rules and adventure modules into the hands of gamers. At Haven, not only will we have free modules, dice, etc. for everybody who comes in, but we'll also have 20% of all RPG books and board games (excluding Magic the Gathering.)

We'll be playing a brand new Dungeons and Dragons adventure, Vault of the Dracolich. This is a D&D Next adventure designed for four to six 4th-level characters. That means it'll be a chance to playlets the latest edition of D&D before it comes out!

Deep in the forest of Cormanthor lies the hoard of the dracolich Dretchroyaster, the prize of which is a diamond staff rumored to unlock the secrets of an ancient elven kingdom. The sage Imani is seeking dozens of adventurers to launch an all-out assault on the undead dragon’s lair. The dracolich is a powerful foe—too great for even several parties to conquer—so it’s going to take all of the heroes’ courage, cunning, and speed to survive the dracolich’s deadly vault.

Batman '72

I love Francesco Francavilla's bold retro style. In years of collecting comics, his variant editions of Warlord of Mars: Fall of Barsoom are the only books I bought just for the covers. I also love Steve McQueen movies and any flick where the car gets more lingering cheesecake shots than the girl. So obviously, I double-love Francavilla's Batman '72 concept, which re-imagines Batman as a grimy 70s cop movie.

Francalilla has several more Batman '72 pictures his blog, including a gloriously porn-stached Lieutenant Gordon. He also mentions, "I have also been developing a bit more of that story pitch for a possible Elseworlds." I, for one, would just start throwing money at DC if they decided to publish that.

Tabletop reviews King of Tokyo

King of Tokyo is a board game where players assume the roles of giant monsters battling each other through Tokyo. Wil Wheaton and his pals played it on the latest episode of Tabletop, and wow, don't they look like they're having fun?

We have King of Tokyo in stock right now. Watch the video, buy the game, become the king of Tokyo!

Free Comic Book Day 2013

Another Free Comic Book Day has come and gone, and this one was a rousing success. We gave out a lot of comics and had a blast doing it. A big thanks to everybody who braved the rain to come celebrate with us!

Since so many new people come into Haven on FCBD, I decided to get all the employees name tags. Then we all went to see Iron Man 3 the night before. *Sigh.* That was $1.49 wasted.

Huntress and The Question (AKA Brad and Jen of The Geek Forge) were six distinct kinds of awesome.

Customers browsing the free comics.

The Biggses made little cakes in the shapes of superheroes. I ate Spider-Man. He has been my hero since I was eleven years old. This act of idolphagy probably had some deep Junigian significance. Also, it was yummy.

Kalisa baked a cake. It was also yummy. It was so yummy, it could even make Batman smile.

Proof!

Batman is beloved Havenite, Justin. Huntress and The Question are still Brad and Jen from The Geek Forge. (Did I mention they have an etsy shop? Because they do.)
We invited some ponies to FCBD. Applejack showed up with her pneumatic apple cannon. The ponies spent about an hour standing in the rain, firing chunks of apple into an empty parking lot. Ponies know how to party.
Here's Dan ringing up some customers. We like to call him "Dan the Man" or "Dan-tastic Voyage." Oh, I just thought of another one! Lord of the Dan-ce! Or maybe Dan-cing with the Stars? I'll work on it.

Panda takes some tips from Elmo on how to be more adorable.

Josh explains how he likes a nice, round badokadonk to a sympathetic customer.

Me: So where'd you get that tattoo?
Her: Oh, my band was touring and this one venue paid us in tattoos.
Me: That is the best tattoo story ever! Also, the best music tour story ever!

Lil' crimefighter.
